“I am grateful that Industree Foundation provides equal opportunities for men, women and the disabled, without discrimination’s”
“The SHG savings program has made my family financially independent and freed us from money lenders’ high interest loans. We help each other within our Self Help Group through this initiative.”
I work at Bangalore Greenkraft Producer Company and am associated with Industree for the past 9 years. I came to know about Industree through a friend and since joining I am continuously learning and have progressed to the position of Team Leader for Ashraya SHG of which I am a part.
Prior to working with Industree, I passed my 10th Std exam and gave tuitions to children from 2nd to 9th standard. Being disabled and also the sole breadwinner for my mother and sister, I had to look for several different sources of income. It is with that aim that I joined BGK. I started at the level of a Helper and today work as a Final Finisher and Team Leader of our SHG.
In 2011, I took a loan of INR 50,000 for my sister’s wedding through the SHG savings program. Each SHG member is encouraged to save INR 200 monthly, to build a large savings account for future needs. This system has made us financially independent and freed us from high interest loans from moneylenders. We support each other in our group through this savings initiative. The low repayment scheme made it easy for me to pay back the amount. I feel very happy and grateful that I was able to have a magnificent wedding for my sister without any financial hassles.
Apart from financial stability, the Foundation has helped me develop my skills. I got training in computer applications and I assist in sending out emails, filing and accounting. I am grateful to the Foundation for providing opportunities for all of us without discrimination.
I have made lot of friends in my workplace. My friends Chandru, Varadaraj, Naveen and Shyam assist me every day in coming up and down the stairs. They are always there for me when I need their help. They encourage and motivate me to be more proficient and also respect me as a team leader, despite my disability. One of my best moments is at the Dusshera celebration in our office each year. We all get together, dance, sing and play games. It feels very good to have a family in my work place!
My aim for the future is to become a Supervisor and manage the entire production floor. I am sure that with the opportunities provided, my goal is not too far off.
