“My dream was to become a lawyer, but I couldn’t pursue because I was not financially stable and my parents could not afford to send me to college. Today I am preparing for my Police Constableexams through my own merit. Industree Foundation is supporting me to get the forms and all the learning material.”
I was born and raised in the Kopalla District of Bangalore to an orthodox Muslim family. Prior to joining EKTHA I was working as a Tailor and Quality Controller in a garment manufacturing company. Many women of my neighborhood were working at EKTHA and so they advised me to join them. It is for this reason that I enrolled with EKTHA as a Checker. Currently I work as Quality Assurance Manager and manage a team of 4 Checkers.
Since I already had experience I was promoted much faster than the others. My role at EKTHA is very challenging. Not only do I need to check if all the products are meeting the high quality standards, but I also need to train and monitor the new Checkers who join the company.
Unlike other garment industries where use of foul language is commonplace, EKTHA has a company culture of politenessand everyone is treated with respect. There is no element of fear in the work place. It is open and transparent! Also, the SHG savings program has helped a lot of women financially, including myself. I was able to easily take an individual loan from the SHG.
My dream was to become a lawyer, but I couldn’t pursue it at that time because I was not financially stable and my parents could not afford to send me to college. Today I am preparing for my Police Constable exams through my own merit. The Foundation is supporting me with getting the forms and all the learning material. I hope I am successful in my exams and that I serve my country someday. I believe there is a lot of respect in that profession and I will also be able to help people in return.
